Exhibition Design for “Eduardo de Adaro. The Architecture of Banco de España” at Sala Chaflán, Cibeles

At MEDIOMUNDO, led by Marta Pelegrín and Fernando Pérez, we see exhibition architecture as an opportunity to activate heritage and create new experiences for the public. The spatial design for the exhibition “Eduardo de Adaro. The Architecture of Banco de España”, in the Sala Chaflán at Banco de España in Madrid, reflects this vision.

Our project revitalises the Sala Chaflán as an exhibition space, adapting it to the needs of the Banco de España Collection and highlighting the figure and work of Eduardo de Adaro. The exhibition brings together original plans, construction documentation, and contemporary photography, allowing visitors to trace the architectural evolution at the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries in Europe.

The exhibition design, in harmony with the restoration of the space, prioritises the visibility and prominence of the pieces, displaying materials that reflect Adaro’s modernity and innovative character. As part of the experience, we have incorporated “BANCO BANCO”, a welded aluminium bench that accompanies visitors’ contemplation and journey through the exhibition.

At MEDIOMUNDO, we are committed to interventions that engage with history and context, integrating innovation, respect for heritage, and a contemporary perspective to enrich the cultural experience.

Spatialisation of the “Máquinas de Trovar” Exhibition at the Reina Sofía Museum

Spatialisation of the “Máquinas de Trovar” Exhibition at the Reina Sofía Museum

At MEDIOMUNDO, led by Marta Pelegrín and Fernando Pérez, we conceive architecture as a process of research and dialogue with contemporary art and culture. We look back with particular satisfaction on our involvement in the “Máquinas de Trovar” exhibition by Pedro G. Romero, inaugurated at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and we celebrate the recent National Visual Arts Prize 2024 awarded to Pedro. Congratulations!

Together with Antonio Marín, we worked on the spatialisation of Pedro G. Romero’s work (3 November 2021 – 28 March 2022, Sabatini Building), taking on the challenge of creating an exhibition device that not only accompanied the artist’s vision, but also explored the curator’s role as a generator of narratives. The exhibition was conceived as an essay on the very nature of the exhibition device, capable of articulating stories through the association of artworks, documents, and audiovisual materials.

At MEDIOMUNDO, we are committed to exhibition architecture that enhances the artistic and narrative experience, creating flexible and evocative spaces that engage with both the works and the public, enriching the cultural experience.

Refurbishment and Exhibition Design at Sala Chaflán, Banco de España

Refurbishment and Exhibition Design at Sala Chaflán, Banco de España

At MEDIOMUNDO, led by Fernando Pérez and Marta Pelegrín, we conceive architecture as a process of dialogue between the memory of a place and contemporary needs. The refurbishment, restoration, and redesign of the Sala Chaflán at the historic Banco de España building in Madrid is a clear example of this philosophy.

The intervention was inaugurated with the exhibition “2328 Reales de Vellón. Goya and the Origin of the Banco de España Collection”, for which we also designed the exhibition layout. Our aim was to guide visitors from the bustle of Plaza de Cibeles into a space for calm contemplation of the collection, creating a spatial and sensory transition that enhances both the artworks and the architectural setting.

The refurbishment of the entrance and transformation of the hall into a contemporary exhibition space involved the incorporation of advanced dry construction techniques and demountable systems, always respecting the original architecture. The restoration of historic elements was combined with the comprehensive modernisation of installations—lighting, security, and climate control—to ensure optimal conditions for the conservation of the Banco de España Collection.

At MEDIOMUNDO, we are committed to interventions that engage with history, integrating innovation, sustainability, and respect for heritage to create spaces that enrich the cultural and collective experience.

Cooperative Housing and Sustainable Densification in Erzhausen, Hessen

Cooperative Housing and Sustainable Densification in Erzhausen, Hessen

Marta Pelegrín and Fernando Pérez, founders of MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos, have participated as consultants in the design workshops for the densification and rehabilitation of cooperative and community housing in Erzhausen, Hessen (Germany). This initiative, promoted by Frankfurter Bogen, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Hochschule Mainz, and the Municipality of Erzhausen, brought together specialists in architecture, urban planning, and cooperative management to explore new models of collective and sustainable housing.

MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos actively contributed to the working groups focused on architecture and rehabilitation, urban and legal frameworks, as well as cooperative management and financing. The results of this participatory process will be published as a reference guide for future cooperative housing projects in the Rhine-Main region, contributing to knowledge transfer and the promotion of innovative solutions in the residential field.

This experience reinforces MEDIOMUNDO’s commitment to applied research, sustainability, and the improvement of quality of life through collaborative and socially responsible architecture.

Second Prize in the International Competition for Housing, Kindergarten and Green Spaces in Rosenthal, Stuttgart

Second Prize in the International Competition for Housing, Kindergarten and Green Spaces in Rosenthal, Stuttgart

Marta Pelegrín and Fernando Pérez, founders of MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos, have been awarded second prize, in collaboration with FISCHER Architekten, in the international competition for the design of a new residential complex, kindergarten, and green spaces in the Rosenthal district of Stuttgart.

MEDIOMUNDO’s proposal is conceived as “a gathering in the park”, arranging the buildings around a sloping garden facing the future Gleisbogen Park, a green space to be created over the former railway tracks. The design encourages the formation of small neighbourhood communities and strengthens the identity of the area, integrating facilities, green spaces, and the reuse of existing buildings.

The project minimises land occupation and optimises sunlight, opting for low-rise buildings with a mixed concrete and timber structure, prefabricated modular façades, terraces, and landscaped penthouses. This hybrid arrangement of residential, educational, and recreational uses lays the foundations for a new urban identity in Rosenthal, in line with MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos’ commitment to sustainability, innovation, and quality of life in the contemporary city.
