Project Exhibition 2023

Project Exhibition 2023

1st Semester Architecture HS-Mainz

During February and March 2024, we had the privilege of coordinating, together with Prof. Dr Marta Pelegrín, the Project Exhibition for the first semester of the 2023 Architecture course at Hochschule Mainz (HS-Mainz), held at Holzstrasse 36 and the LUX Pavilion.

At MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos, we understand architecture as a process of constant research and experimentation. From the very beginning of academic training, we propose a methodology based on direct interaction with space and the optimised, rational, empathetic, and haptic use of materials. Throughout the semester, students developed a sequence of exercises exploring design actions such as folding, unfolding, subtracting, stacking, inverting, twinning, or rhythmising, applied to essential materials like stone, wood, metal, concrete, rammed earth, bamboo, cork, and recycled materials.

This exhibition is the result of a collective effort aimed at fostering creativity, sensitivity, and innovation in architectural design—values that are central to our identity as a practice. We believe in an approach to architectural education that integrates practice, critical reflection, and material experimentation, and we are pleased to share the outcomes of this process with the academic and professional community.

Exhibition of Projects – 2023 First Semester Architecture HS-Mainz

Exhibition of Projects – 2023 First Semester Architecture HS-Mainz

Marta Pelegrín and Fernando Pérez, founders of MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos, maintain a strong commitment to education and experimentation in architecture from the earliest academic stages. At the Exhibition of Projects for the 2023 first semester of Architecture at HS-Mainz, held at Holzstrasse 36 and the LUX Pavilion (February–March 2024), under the direction of Prof. Dr. Marta Pelegrín, the results of a teaching methodology based on direct interaction with space and the optimised, rational, empathetic, and haptic use of materials were presented.

Through a sequence of exercises, students explored design actions such as folding, unfolding, subtracting, stacking, inverting, twinning, and rhythmising, in relation to essential material techniques involving stone, wood, metal, concrete, rammed earth, bamboo, cork, and recycled materials. This approach fosters creativity, spatial understanding, and material sensitivity from the very beginning of architectural education.

2024 Project Exhibition – 1st Semester Architecture HS-Mainz

At MEDIOMUNDO, led by Marta Pelegrín and Fernando Pérez, we understand architecture as an active, experimental learning process in constant dialogue with space and materials. During October and November 2024, we coordinated the Project Exhibition for the first semester of the 2024 Architecture course at Hochschule Mainz (HS-Mainz), at Holzstrasse 36 and LUX Pavilion.

Our teaching methodology is based on direct interaction with space and the optimised, rational, empathetic, and haptic use of materials. Throughout the semester, students developed a sequence of exercises linking design actions—folding, unfolding, subtracting, stacking, inverting, twinning, rhythmising, among others—with essential techniques for working with materials such as stone, wood, metal, concrete, rammed earth, bamboo, cork, and recycled materials.

This exhibition reflects a collective process that fosters creativity, sensitivity, and innovation in architectural design. At MEDIOMUNDO, we believe in an approach to architectural education that integrates practice, critical reflection, and material experimentation, convinced that these values are fundamental for training the architects of the future.

Cooperative Housing and Sustainable Densification in Erzhausen, Hessen

Cooperative Housing and Sustainable Densification in Erzhausen, Hessen

Marta Pelegrín and Fernando Pérez, founders of MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos, have participated as consultants in the design workshops for the densification and rehabilitation of cooperative and community housing in Erzhausen, Hessen (Germany). This initiative, promoted by Frankfurter Bogen, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Hochschule Mainz, and the Municipality of Erzhausen, brought together specialists in architecture, urban planning, and cooperative management to explore new models of collective and sustainable housing.

MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos actively contributed to the working groups focused on architecture and rehabilitation, urban and legal frameworks, as well as cooperative management and financing. The results of this participatory process will be published as a reference guide for future cooperative housing projects in the Rhine-Main region, contributing to knowledge transfer and the promotion of innovative solutions in the residential field.

This experience reinforces MEDIOMUNDO’s commitment to applied research, sustainability, and the improvement of quality of life through collaborative and socially responsible architecture.

Exhibition “Home&Office?: UPCYCLE POSTWAR MASS SOCIAL HOUSING” – Mainz

Marta Pelegrín and Fernando Pérez, founders of MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos, maintain a line of work focused on research and innovation in social housing and sustainability. In this context, Marta Pelegrín has organised the exhibition “Home&Office?: UPCYCLE POSTWAR MASS SOCIAL HOUSING” in Mainz, presenting the results of research and teaching on the design of an architectural prototype for the sustainable rehabilitation of post-war social housing in Germany.

The exhibition features an analogue prototype, a 1:1 scale mock-up and scale models, alongside a digital prototype accessible via Hololens and VR-lens. In addition, intervention proposals are presented for the residential sectors (Siedlungen) built in the post-war period in Mainz, addressing both energy-efficient and constructive rehabilitation, as well as the sustainable adaptation of these environments to contemporary domestic programmes.

This initiative reinforces MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos’ commitment to applied research, knowledge transfer, and the improvement of quality of life through sustainable and socially responsible architecture.

Marta Pelegrín and Fernando Pérez, founders of MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos, maintain a line of work focused on research and innovation in sustainable residential architecture. As part of the international scientific seminar “HOME&OFFICE? Research Design of prototyped system for the sustainable upcycling of 1950-70 residential buildings to get contemporary living- & workspace”, held at the LUX Pavilion of Hochschule Mainz (Mainz, Germany), Fernando Pérez Blanco delivered the lecture “Big small transformations”.

During his presentation, MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos shared the progress of their research on the renovation and optimal rehabilitation of housing, as well as the sustainable adaptation of residential buildings to new contemporary domestic programmes. The studio’s experience in transforming living spaces highlights the importance of traceability, efficiency, and sustainability in current architecture.

Participation in this international event reinforces MEDIOMUNDO’s commitment to knowledge transfer, improving quality of life, and seeking innovative solutions for contemporary housing.
