HS Mainz, October-November 2024

At MEDIOMUNDO, we understand architecture as an experience enriched by direct contact with built works and their surroundings. For this reason, during October and November 2024, we accompanied the Architectural Design students from Hochschule Mainz (HS Mainz) on an academic trip to Basel, coordinated by Marta Pelegrín and Fernando Pérez.

Together with the students, we explored and analysed some of the most significant works of contemporary European architecture. We visited projects by renowned studios and architects such as Herzog & De Meuron, Diener & Diener, Jessenvollenweider, Buol & Zünd, Valerio Olgiati, Christ & Gantenbein, M. Alder, Müller & Maranta, Buchner + Bründler, Gmür & Vacchini, as well as works by Renzo Piano, Álvaro Siza, Rafael Moneo, Juan Navarro Baldeweg, and Cruz y Ortiz.

This experience was an opportunity for collective learning, the exchange of ideas, and critical reflection on architecture through direct observation and dialogue with the built environment. At MEDIOMUNDO, we believe these trips are essential for fostering the sensitivity, curiosity, and critical perspective of future architects—values that are central to our way of understanding and teaching architecture.
